Elkhorn History

Originally founded in 1878 by Frank Linggi as the Elkhorn Saloon, this building has housed many things: a restaurant, saloon, a post office, a brothel, and a gambling hall. Both steamboat and stagecoach passengers would frequent the Saloon until the levees were completed in the 1920’s. In 1958 the building was moved to make room for expansion of the Old River Road and it became the Elkhorn Station and became famous for its “Friday Night Fish Fry.”
